Realize Band

*Results May Vary

Do you need to lose 50 pounds or more? If so, you could be a candidate for the Realize Band.

Realize BandThe Realize adjustable gastric band is a surgical method of weight loss designed to achieve gradual results. While it is similar to the Lap Band, the Realize Band has a wider range of adjustment to minimize stretching. Surgical placement of a Realize Band is intended to safely promote weight loss and improve the patient’s quality of life, while preventing/resolving disorders related to obesity.

The Realize Band is similar to the Lap Band, with the exception of its adjustment settings. If you’re looking for a surgical weight loss method to assist you in your transformation, the Realize Band can bring you effective results.

The Realize Band Procedure

Dr. Frenzel has completed extensive special training on the Realize Band. For safer, less invasive surgery, the procedure is performed laparoscopically, with a fiber optic instrument that allows Dr. Frenzel to view the abdominal cavity. The Realize Band is placed on the upper portion of the stomach, limiting food intake and causing a feeling of fullness, or satisfaction, sooner. Adjusting the band, to ensure continued effectiveness, requires delivery of saline through a low-profile port on the patient’s side. Dr. Frenzel usually performs the first adjustment four weeks after the surgery.

The Realize Band does not include staples, which allows your body to absorb nutrients from food. A small incision is made near the belly button, where a video monitor is inserted to scope out the abdomen. Small incisions are made in the abdomen so Dr. Frenzel can insert the gastric band. Because it is adjustable, the Realize Band allows Dr. Frenzel to adjust your band fit over time.

Results After Realize Band Surgery

After placement of the Realize Band, moderate eating habits become easier and weight decreases gradually. Lower body weight is thought to reduce the threat of serious obesity-related diseases and disorders, such as the following:

  • Type II diabetes
  • Hypertension
  • High Cholesterol
  • Heart Disease
  • Sleep Apnea

Weight loss typically occurs during the first two years, but may occur gradually beyond that period. Changes in diet and exercise habits are always recommended to achieve the best possible improvement in patient health. Success with the Realize Band is measured not only by amount of weight lost, but also on quality-of-life improvements experienced after surgery.
